040.  Guptas, Samudragupta (AD 330-380), Gold, Dinar, Battle-Axe type, king standing to left, wearing a close-fitted cap, tailed coat and trousers, half-pant, necklace, earrings, armlets and wristlets; the king holds a Battle-Axe (Parashu) in left hand, right hand resting on the waist; a sword is seen hanging from the belt; on left a dwarf attendant looking up to the king with his right hand resting on waist; Brahmi legend below the left hand of the king reads, samudra; and partly visible circular legend reads, kritantaparshurjayatyajita rajjetajitah. The rev depicts a goddess enthroned, facing with a pasha (noose) in her right hand and a cornucopiae in the left. Brahmi legend (off flan) reads kritantaparashuh (Altekar, Bayana, var. A, # 174). Fine+, Extremely Rare.

041.  Guptas, Samudragupta, Gold, Dinar, Archer type, king standing in a Royal posture holding a bow in the left hand and an arrow in right hand, a Garuda Standard in the left field and samudra in Brahmi below his left elbow, legend around in the right field on obv; enthroned Goddess Lakshmi on rev. Fine+, Scarce.

042.  Guptas, Chandragupta II, Gold, Dinara, Chhatra type, obv; Maharajadhiraj Chandragupta, rev; Vikramaditya Broad flan, clear impressions, Very Fine+, Extremely Rare. The Chhatra type coins are other innovations of Chandragupta II. The type was introduced probably with the idea of emphasizing his Imperial status (eka-chhatratva) in the country.
