ANCIENT COINS

001.  Punch-marked Coins, Kosala Janapada, Silver (4), ½ Karshapana, geometrical marks with large and deep countermarks on rev (Rajgor Series 72). About Very Fine, Rare. (4).

Estimate: Rs. 10,000-12,000



   

002.  Punch-marked Coins, Post-Maurya, Mathura region (2nd century BC), Silver, Karshapana, (3.24 g) with a figure of Shankarshana-Balarama (the elder brother of Lord Krishna), carrying Plough and Pestle in the hands. This is one of the earliest examples of the depiction of Balarama on Indian coins. Very Fine, Rare.

Estimate: Rs. 2,000-2,500



   

003.  Gandhara, 2nd century BC, Copper, ¼ Shatamana (5.33g), Punch-marked type with two punches having a Six-armed symbol and the typical taxila symbol found on silver punch-marked coins (cf. Rajgor 579 & 579a). Fine, Extremely Rare.

Estimate: Rs. 4,000-5,000



   

004.  Indo-Greeks, Apollodotus I (c. 160-150 BC) Silver, Drachm, (2.4 g), Square, elephant standing to right on obv; bull to right on rev. Very Fine, Scarce.

Estimate: Rs. 1,500-2,000

   

005.  Indo-Greeks, Apollodotus I, (c. 160-150 BC), Square, Copper, unit (9.67 g), Apollo standing on obv; tripod on rev. Attractive, Very Fine. Scarce.

Estimate: Rs.2,000-2,500



   

006.  Indo-Greeks, Menander I (c. 165-155 BC), Copper, unit (2.36 g). Head of elephant, rev: club of Herakles. About Extremely Fine for the type, Rare in this condition.

Estimate: Rs. 2,000-2,500



   

007.  Indo-Greeks, Agathocleia and Strato I (c. 135-125 BC), Copper, Indian-standard square unit (8.43 g), obv, Helmeted bust of Athena right, rev, Herakles seated left. Very Fine, Scarce.

008.  Indo-Greeks, Antialcidas, Copper square unit, bust of Zeus right on obv, caps of Dioscuri, with two palms between. Green patina, Scarce in this condition.

Estimate: Rs. 3,500-4,000



   

009.  Almora, Mrugabhuti (c. 200 BC), Copper unit (9.5 g), Brahmi legend, 'Mugabhutisa'. About Very Fine, Very Rare.

010.  Ujjain, Balamitra 2nd century BC, Copper unit (3.45g), Inscribed in Brahmi, tree on railing on obv; Ujjaiyini symbol in a circle on rev, Good Fine, Rare.

Estimate: Rs. 4,000-5,000



   

011.  Satavahanas, Satakarni I, Copper, Junnar lion type, legend, Sri Satakarni above the lion on obv; Ujjayini symbol on rev. Good Fine, Rare.

Estimate: Rs. 3,000-4,000

   

012.  Anandas of Karwar, Chutukulananda, Lead (2.51 g), legend around hill symbol on obv. Good Fine, Rare.

Estimate: Rs. 2,000-2,500



   

013.  Kushanas, Huvishka, Gold, Dinar, King seated on clouds holding a mace in right hand and an Ankush in left on obv; God standing on rev with lable MIOPPO written in crude style. About Very Fine, Scarce.

014.  Kushanas, Huvishka, Gold, Dinar, (7.66 g), Huvishka seated on clouds with mace on obv; Goddess Ardoksho standing to right on rev. About Very Fine, Scarce.

015.  Samudragupta (c. AD 335-380), Gold, Dinar (7.6 g), Standard type, Samudra below arm of king with legend in right field on obv, rev : goddess Lakshmi enthroned. Die crack at 7 o’clock, About Very Fine.

016.  Chandragupta II (c. AD 380-414), Gold, Dinar (7.64 g), Horseman type, king on horse facing left; goddess seated left on rev. About Very Fine, Rare

017.  Chandragupta II (c. AD 380-414), Gold, Dinar (7.78 g), Archer type, Chandra below arm of king on obv, goddess Lakshmi seated on rev. About Very Fine.

018.  Guptas, Chandragupta II, Gold (3), Dinar, Archer type, King holding a bow on obv and Goddess Lakshmi on rev. Fine+ to Very Fine. (3)
